“ A great lunch stop. Very dog friendly, which attracted us in the first place. There were 4 other couples/families with their dogs, and more followed. Each dog was treated to a cooked sausage! We can thoroughly recommend the fish finger sandwich. Absolutely delicious . A good portion on granary bread with fresh cut salad. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. This was a great find, and we will be back. ”
“ Popped in here on a Thursday lunch time. It’s nice and relaxed, family friendly and dog friendly. We were going to get a meal but when we saw the beautiful handmade scones we decided to have the cream tea, with a pot of earl grey tea. The scones were offered hot or cold, there was plenty of cream and the pot of tea for two had to teabags in which gave a very nice strong cup of tea. Looking at the other food being served, the portions were good and the quality good. This is my second visit here (last time was just pre Covid I think) and the quality remains the same. I can highly recommend this as a nice relaxing place to pause for a bite and a cuppa. ”
“ There's a homely and comforting smell when you walk into this place. Food hygiene rating of 5 displayed on the window. Everything seemed clean; toilets were immaculate (ladies' are off the main cafe, men's are across a small courtyard out the back). Staff were pleasant. Dogs are welcome, and during our visit all dogs (and children!) were well-behaved and seemed to be having a good time; not sure where the comments about a "dingy" atmosphere are coming from in some of the other reviews. The front is all window so there's plenty of light, and there's seascape art displayed on the walls so the decor is in keeping with other seaside cafes. Vegetarians please don't rely on the menu board outside - there's a nut roast version of the daily roast available which was delicious and very filling, and a veggie lasagna which also looked appealing. There may have been more but I was hungry and made my choice. Husband had the burger which was one of those "piled so high it has to be kept together with a stick" affairs, and it came on a large plate with chips and salad, so the portions are not ungenerous. The kids' sausage and chips was two sausages with chunky chips (I think it normally comes with beans but my kid ordered it plain) and the tomato sauce was provided separately in a small dish on request, so it's ideal for children who like their meals simple or for anyone on the autism spectrum who doesn't like the ingredients touching. Would visit again. ”
“ Only dropped in for coffee whilst walking past and we enjoyed our superb drinks. It wasn't busy on Friday morning, the staff were very pleasant an acknowledged us on both arrival and departure. We didn't eat, but the menu looked comprehensive. The sweet treats looked particularly good! ”
“ Drag yourself past the chip shops and cake shops, wander up the delightful Staithe Street to Nelson's. Excellent home cooked food, we had a pie with fresh vegetables. Good selection of cakes too. The staff are very friendly, the cafe is roomy, comfortable, cool. Smashing pot of tea. ”
